The ring was designed exclusively for Syracuse University students. The design was based on the results that asked students to identify those images that capture the essential qualities of college life at Syracuse University. The symbols that adorn the ring represent unique elements of Syracuse University culture, and were selected to inspire future alumni. Each ring is presented in a wooden box with the University seal engraved on top. The ring is reserved exclusively for those who meet the University's strict academic standards. Students who earned 60 credits or more toward a bachelor's degree or 15 or more credits toward an advanced degree are eligible to order a ring. The rings are presented to students each fall and spring at a special ceremony. The first ceremony was held November 8, 2002 at the Chancellor's residence.
