Textbook "Buy Back"
It's that time of year - you have textbooks you don't want to keep. You don't want to just dispose of them and add to the waste stream. You want to recycle them. And...as long as you plan to recycle them, you might as well get some cash for them!
In addition to the year round textbook buy back service, located in the textbook section of the lower level of the Schine Student Center Bookstore, we have additional locations starting Thursday, April 26:
And now you can find out how much you will get for your textbooks before taking them to one of the buy-back locations - using a free app on your iPhone or Android smart phone! Just go to your apps store and search on "Sell Books Syracuse," download the free app, and enter your textbook information.

Things to think about before making your decision:
Before you sell your books to any other bookstore or individual, make sure you are getting the best possible price! Prices paid by the Syracuse University Bookstore are, in most cases, equal or greater than those paid by others.
Note that:
- Recycling your books is good for the environment and lowers the price of textbooks
- Books with writing or highlighting may have value
- The book prices are determined by the authors and publishers
- Wholesale prices are based on national supply and demand
Remember that the Syracuse University Bookstore is owned and operated by Syracuse University. Income from operations is used to support a wide variety of University and student activities.
What you need to know about selling your used textbooks:
|
Retail (the best offer)
|
We will pay up to 50% of the current retail price providing the textbook
- will be required for the next term (we must have an order from the faculty)
- is needed to fill next term's orders
- is in reusable condition
|
|
Wholesale (the next best offer)
|
- For books having national demand, the Bookstore may pay 15% to 40% of the current retail price
- Discontinued books are shipped to a wholesaler who recycles them to other colleges and universities where they are needed.
|
Our goal is to buy back as many of your books at 50% as possible regardless of where you bought them.
We do not buy instructor's desk copies. We are also unable to buy used books if there is an overstock of inventory. For your protection and to ensure against the risk of a computer virus, The University Bookstore has chosen not to buy back software included in textbook packages. We may offer a reduced buyback price paid for the textbook without the software. Our wholesaler may elect to purchase textbook/software packages and will base that on national need. |
